The
Law Enforcement Mental Health Alliance (LEHMA) is a collaborative alliance to promote and share quality mental health and police
suicide prevention strategies, for the future betterment of life, for law enforcement officers and retirees.
LEMHA is for groups
and individuals who want to team with others to enhance officer mental health and reduce police suicides. If "team"
is not in your vocabulary and your program is "all about you," then LEHMA is not the place for you. We hope you will
think about it, though.
MISSION
LEHMA supports the mental health and well-being of law enforcement personnel in
the United States and Canada by:
· A GOOD WILL REGISTRY: developing a registry of selfless, committed organizations and individuals;
· A NETWORK: creating an accessible peer support and professional network of diverse mental health resources;
· BY SHARING OUR BEST: sharing information
of mutual interest and benefit.
GOALS
The organization is designed to:
· Develop a network that promotes education and advocacy of new, energetic research and mental
health strategies for police officers.
· Encourage innovative police suicide prevention training in all levels
of law enforcement, not mere last-minute intervention.
· Promote the
combined efforts of peer support officers, police mental health groups and community resources in suicide
awareness, intervention and postvention plans and policies.
· Provide a virtual campus of information, available resources and programs for
use by others.
· Encourage,
support, and facilitate the sharing of materials and other research.
VALUES AND INTEGRITY
It is the intent of the alliance that some day
we can end the hoarding information that results in the continuous “reinvention of the wheel,” by providing
one another easy access to alliance members’ information upon request. We
believe that sharing quality information of mutual interest is the key to success.
We seek individuals, organizations and
groups that are dedicated to the selfless promotion of quality mental health strategies for the law enforcement community
and whose integrity and values are beyond reproach, profit motive and/or self-aggrandizement.
Inclusion in this web-based registry does not
imply an endorsement of any program by LEMHA.
“In the end, we will
remember not the words of our
enemies, but the silence of
our friends."
--Martin Luther King
